Dindi Wild + Free Co were joined by Homeschooling families from all over the state in January for a tour of the beautifully scenic Kerrisdale Mountain Railway + Museum!

This tour was a fantastic opportunity to discover the rich heritage of our pioneer region just North of Melbourne with a stream engine train, mechanical and heritage tour, walking us through history.

The tour catered for all ages and was a great way for our Home Educating Collective to enjoy stunning panoramic mountain range views with a rich learning experience.

Kerrisdale Mountain Railway + Museum is a narrow gauge tourist railway with spectacular views of the entire Upper Goulburn Valley.

The group was guided by friendly volunteers, on a 35 minute return train journey, steam museum demonstration, and workshop tour.

Located half way between Yea and Seymour, Kerrisdale Mountain Railway + Museum is a Tourist railway and steam museum in the foot of the Tallarook Ranges, approximately one hour North of Melbourne CBD.

The 2 foot (610 mm) railway has a 35 minute return train journey to ‘Summit Station’ with panoramic views of the whole of the Upper Goulburn Valley and beyond.

After the train journey, we had a guided tour of the steam museum, locomotive sheds and workshop.

With a wealth of local heritage woven throughout the guided tour, this was a wonderful way to discover many of the local regions historical treasures, natural geographical science and pioneer beginnings.

We are blessed to have this local treasure in our Murrindindi region and can’t recommend this experience highly enough.

Our group filled 2 train rides and enjoyed a lovely luncheon together, overlooking the stunning panoramic vista in the morning shade.

Group bookings are arranged with the Mountain Railway + Museum, or tours are open to public on Sundays with a kiosk for lunches and disabled access.
